Verse of the Day 1/27

Verse of the Day 1/27

Psalm 118:5-6 English Standard Version

Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?

One of the many things that I admire about my wife Jean is how she can "turn things off" and go to sleep.  She has plenty of things in her life that could stress many people out, starting with dealing with cancer treatments and on down to daily household responsibilities and serving others in leading Bible studies and being a Guardian as Litem.

We've been considering how the Lord is God and there is no other.  She can find rest because she puts her faith and trust in the Almighty God.  Her attitude is "He's got this".

Charles Stanley writes, "Our stress need not become distress. When we feel stress, we do not have to feel defeated and give in to the temptation to give up and run. With an accurate understanding of our heavenly Father and a firm belief in his care, we will be able to walk through the worst of circumstances with inner quietness (Gal 5:22) and genuine confidence (Heb 13:6). That is our privilege as God's children."

David wrote, "Thine, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Thine is the dominion, O Lord, and Thou dost exalt Thyself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from Thee, and Thou dost rule over all, and in Thy hand is power and might; and it lies in Thy hand to make great, and to strengthen everyone. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise Thy glorious name" (1 Chron.29:11-13).

1 What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 118:1-9
English Standard Version

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

118 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    for his steadfast love endures forever!

Let Israel say,
    "His steadfast love endures forever."
Let the house of Aaron say,
    "His steadfast love endures forever."
Let those who fear the Lord say,
    "His steadfast love endures forever."

Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
    the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
    I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.
