Verse of the Day 2/11

Through the Bible - Leviticus 7-9, Matthew26:36-56

Good morning,
In yesterday's passage in John 8 we were told that Jesus' disciples would "abide in His Word", the truth, and  knowing the truth would set them free.
For today's verse we'll go to John chapter 20 where Jesus tells the disciples that the Bible is written so that we might believe what he had done and said that we may have life "in His name".
John 20:30-21:1

30 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.  Holy Bible, New Living Translation

Many believe that the Bible is just a collection of obscure mythology and fables.  C. S. Lewis who made his reputation in writing mythology in works like "The Chronicles of Narnia", wrote, "I have been reading poems, romances, and vision literature, legends and myths all my life.  I know what they are like.  I know that not one of them is like this."

As you read, study, memorize and apply the Bible to our lives we will reach the same conclusion as Lewis.  All of the Bible teaches us about us, our human condition, our need of a saviour, who is Jesus.

As you do read you may wonder as John Calvin and others through the ages have, if the Lord had made His revelaton so obscure that few could understand it, He never would have commanded His people, saying  that there must be "no portion of time unoccupied with meditation on the Law".  (John Calvin)

If you want to learn more about Jesus, I can think of no better place to start than the book of John.  In reading it, you wont find it obscure, you may find that by reading and believing that you may find life.
In Christ,
Mike

John 20:26-21:1

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"  27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."

28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

30 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may  believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.   NIV
