Verse of the Day 6/2

Philippians 2:8 (ESV) And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

I read two passages this morning in different devotionals that brought together two verses that I had never linked together.  One was this verse from Philippians which should cause us to step back in wonder at Christ's amazing love.  The other was from 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter:

1 Corinthians 13:4(AMP) Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

I read this verse in the Amplified Bible which start with "love endures".  Think of what Christ endured for us as He went to the cross, for us.  He didn't have to, but He humbled Himself, first of all, in coming to earth as a little baby, coming to a poor family being born in a stable.  Then He humbled Himself to the uttermost by obediently following the Father's plan.

Pastor Greg Laurie writes, "Another way to translate that phrase is, "Love is long-tempered." This common New Testament term is used almost exclusively in speaking of being patient with people, rather than being patient with circumstances or events.

Love's patience is the ability to be inconvenienced again and again."
What would characterize our love, for our spouse, for others and for God?  What or how much are we willing to endure, to "put up with"?

The passage in Philippians starts with "have this mind among yourselves".  It won't come naturally, but is possible with the power of Chris in us.

In Christ,
Mike

Philippians 2:5-11English Standard Version (ESV)
5  Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6  who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9  Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
