Verse of the Day 4/9

Matthew 14:24-25  But the boat was already over a mile[a] from land,[b] battered by the waves, because the wind was against them.25 Around three in the morning,[c] He came toward them walking on the sea.  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
How many times do we start out the day seemingly heading into the wind, with things on our minds and in our way preventing us from fulfilling the plans of Go?  This passage continues to fascinate me.  I've read commentaries that it is quite possible that as Jesus retreated to a hillside to pray, that he saw the disciples heading out "against the wind" and struggling to make progress to their destination.
The last couple of days we've considered how we are called to come, see, and pray to Jesus.  There is no indication that the disciples were doing this at this point in their trip across the waters.  Jesus sees their struggles and goes out towards them, He meets them where they are.  As He approaches they see Him unexpectedly, were frightened, and did not realize that it was Jesus that was approaching them.  They cried out in fear and He answered them.
Looking back in our lives can you see times when you headed out on your own into strong headwinds, not making progress, and the wind and waves continued to get stronger?  Did you pray to Jesus on your own or did He come to meet you in the troubled waters?
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

In Christ,
Mike

Matthew 14:23-25

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
23 After dismissing the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone. 24 But the boat was already over a mile[a] from land,[b] battered by the waves, because the wind was against them. 25 Around three in the morning,[c] He came toward them walking on the sea.
