Verse of the Day 4/17

John 16:33   "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."   New International Version (NIV)

In my devotions this morning I read from John 14 which starts out by saying "Do not let your hearts be troubled.".  Today's verse from John 16 gives us good reason not to let our hearts be troubled.  Jesus has overcome the world.  God is sovereign and He is in control, the victory has been won, the end is sure.  At the same time, the Bible is straightforward and honest, "in this world you will have trouble".

Pastor Greg Laurie writes, "We may have a hard time putting the words "trials," "problems," and "God loves me" into one sentence, because they don't seem to go together. But let's take a look at God's end game. Is it to make us happy in the temporal, or is it to make us holy in the eternal? Is it to keep us always earthbound, or is it, in reality, to prepare us for heaven? The latter is the answer. So God can allow tragedy. No tragedy is good. But God can bring good despite a tragedy"

There will be days of trouble of tragedy in our country and our personal lives.  As Christians we know the "end game", God wins, and it is faith in Jesus Christ that brings the victory.

Faith is the victory, faith is the victory,

Oh glorious victory that overcomes the world.

Blessings,
Mike

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

14 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Jesus the Way to the Father

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
