Verse of the Day 4/11

Proverbs 11:28  Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Reading today's verse reminded me of some geranium plants that we keep out on our back porch.  They do not stand up to winter's freezing temperatures so for several years, over the winter, I keep them in the garage.  They don't get much light there so many leaves fall off and those that remain turn a lighter, almost translucent color.  It finally warmed up enough that I could take them and put them back out on the porch.  Within the first day the plants started to perk up as the leaves turned towards the sun.

Riches can sometimes cause us to feel self sufficient and in effect shut ourselves off from God's Word, prayer and general dependence on Him.  We may go through seasons of our lives where our countenance drops for any number of reasons.  Sometimes it takes someone or something to bring us out of the garage or basement and bring us back out into the Sonlight of God's Word.  We turn towards Him and feel the strength and vigor return.

It may not feel like spring yet where you are located, but wherever we are we can turn to Him.  "When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way", I believe that this is the flourishing spoken of in today's verse.  May we flourish like a green leaf.

In Christ,
Mike

Proverbs 11:27-29

Amplified Bible (AMP)

27 He who diligently seeks good seeks [God's] favor, but he who searches after evil, it shall come upon him.

28 He who leans on, trusts in, and is confident in his riches shall fall, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like a green bough.

29 He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind, and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.
