Verse of the Day 1/12

Verse of the Day 1/12

Matthew 7:7
New King James Version

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

We've just considered the past, present and future aspects of God's grace, His gift to us.  His grace is continual, day after day, sustaining us and giving us what we need to live and grow in our faith.  The verbs "ask, seek, and knock" in today's verse are in the perfect tense.  We are to "keep", to continually do these things  God responds in His grace.

Eric Alexander writes, "All three verbs are present imperatives, and it is likely that they are much more than just a repetition of the same idea. Rather, I think the three commands "ask," "seek," and "knock" are a progressive intensification. Repeatedly asking requires perseverance, and still more so does continuous seeking. Persistent knocking suggests an intense desire for entry. "

Our prayers, our seeking God are to be continual and it is imperative for our growth that we do so.  Keep on asking, seeking and knocking - the doors will be opened for you.

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 7:7-12
New King James Version

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
