Verse of the Day 1/5

Verse of the Day 1/5

Matthew 5:14-15
New King James Version

14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Matthew chapter 5 begins the Sermon on the Mount one of 5 major discourses from Jesus and in today's verse He tells His listeners "you are the light of the world".  At first this may seem to be in conflict with Jesus own statement in John 8 where He declared "I am the light of the world" but as was mentioned in John 1:4

John 1:4
New King James Version

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Jesus is the light of the world and as He shines on, in and through us, we are reflectors of that light.  Lamps, flashilights and solar tubes all reflect light and the light is magnified.  As we trust in God, walk in obedience by faith that light is reflected for the world to see.

As we go about our day today, may we reflect that light and be the light of the world as Jesus calls us to be.

1. The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Refrain:
Come to the light, 'tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!

2. No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 5:13-16
New King James Version

Believers Are Salt and Light

13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
