Verse of the Day 3/17

Psalm 148:1(HCSB) Hallelujah!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
praise Him in the heights.

As I read this verse in the HCSB translation a smile came across my face.  Reading hallelujah! and praise the Lord, together, brought back memories from Sunday School and AWANA Clubs as a child at Schiller Park Evangelical Free Church.  It was there that we used to sing the following:

Halleluj, halleluj, halleluj, hallelujah!!
Praise ye the Lord.

The sanctuary or room would be divided into groups; boys against girls, right against left, adults against children, and they would volley back and forth with Hallelujah and Praise the Lord, trying to outshout or out praise the other group.  It was a lot of fun and I'm sure it brought a smile to the Lord's face as well to hear his little ones shout with glee in praise to their Saviour.

As I thought about it, it made me smile again to think about how many people reading this devotional were a part of that congregation and sang that song through the years.

As I thought about it a little more, I thought how this attitude of out shouting each other in praise should be a part of our lives today.  Not in a spirit of one up-manship, but in praise celebrating with each other what the Lord has done for us.
The psalm ends with a similar

Psalm 148:13-14(HCSB)13 Let them praise the name of Yahweh, for His name alone is exalted. His majesty covers heaven and earth.
14 He has raised up a horn for His people, resulting in praise to all His godly ones, to the Israelites, the people close to Him.
Hallelujah!

May we, as people who are close to Him,  be willing to shout praise the Lord, and Hallelujah for what He has done for us this weekend.
In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 148 Creation's Praise of the LORD
 1 Hallelujah!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
praise Him in the heights.

2 Praise Him, all His angels;
praise Him, all His hosts.
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
praise Him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise Him, highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
for He commanded, and they were created.
6 He set them in position forever and ever;
He gave an order that will never pass away.
