Verse of the Day 12/18

Psalm 85:10-11  Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
    righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
    and righteousness looks down from the sky.

I don't recall hearing of these verses being spoken of in relation to the Christmas season but as I read them this morning the message of Christmas was clearly seen.

Notice what these verses describe and think about how "they meet" in Jesus, steadfast love, faithfulness, righteousness and peace.  Don't we need all of these things?  They are offered to us as gifts, sent from above, in Jesus Christ.  (James 1:17).

Think of a refreshing spring coming out of the ground, cold clear water to quench the thirst of the day.  I think of David in Psalm 42 "as the deer pants for water so my soul longs for you".

Read through the verses again.  Think of how many Christmas carols or other scriptures come to mind.  May they spring up in you and help to bring joy and peace to you today.  The words "look down from the sky" remind me of Away in a Manger.

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the night sky look down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

Blessings,
Mike
