Verse of the Day 12/2

1 John 5:11-12 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  12 The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn't have the Son of God does not have life.  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

What a message these verses bring to us in this season and in our lives today and through eternity.  God has given us the greatest gift ever, truly the gift that keeps on giving.  We look and hope for eternal life, this gift is about a new life that starts here and will continue into eternity with Him.  If we don't have Christ in our lives, we won't have life as it should be now or ever.  Sobering thoughts.

How can we have assurance?  We look back to verses 4 and 5 of this chapter.

1 John 5:4-5 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?(ESV)

Our faith gives us the assurance.  It is not our faith, people can have faith in many things, it is Who our faith is in.  If our faith is in Christ and our lives are lived in that faith, our lives will give testimony to the fact that He is the One that gives life a life that overcomes.

Faith is the Victory

To him that overcomes the foe,
White raiment shall be giv'n.
Before the angels he shall know
His name confessed in Heav'n.
Then onward from the hill of light,
Our hearts with love aflame,
We'll vanquish all the hosts of night,
In Jesus' conqu'ring Name.

Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory!
O glorious victory, that overcomes the world.

In Christ,
Mike

1 John 5  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him. 2 This is how we know that we love God's children when we love God and obey His commands. 3 For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, 4 because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. 5 And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

The Certainty of God's Testimony

6 Jesus Christ—He is the One who came by water and blood, not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement. 9 If we accept the testimony of men, God's testimony is greater, because it is God's testimony that He has given about His Son. 10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him. The one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son.) 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

12 The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn't have the Son of God does not have life.
