Verse of the Day 1/12

Verse of the Day 1/12

Proverbs 22:17-18 Listen closely, pay attention to the words of the wise,

and apply your mind to my knowledge.
18 For it is pleasing if you keep them within you
and if they are constantly on your lips.    Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

There has never been a time when more "words" are floating around out there.  We have all of the types of media from a generation ago, television; radio; print and a few others.  Today you can add to that the internet and a host of venues  - Facebook; Twitter; Instagram; blogs and podcasts to name a few.  You can find advise on all of these outlets but what is being offered; told to us as being true; are not what they appear to be.

For the Christian, we know where to go to find wisdom; knowledge; truth and understanding.  It comes from God's Word and spending time in His Word and prayer are keys to having "the words of the wise" in our minds and in our hearts.  Many have already gone to church today and others will be heading out shortly to do so.  We go to worship; offering songs of praise and to hear wisdom from God's Word from our pastors.  May be be attentive to His words today; they are not only words of the wise but words of life.  May they not only be in our hearts and minds but "constantly on your lips" as well.

  1. Sing them over again to me,
    Wonderful words of life,
    Let me more of their beauty see,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Words of life and beauty
    Teach me faith and duty.
    • Refrain:
      Beautiful words, wonderful words,
      Wonderful words of life;
      Beautiful words, wonderful words,
      Wonderful words of life.
  2. Christ, the blessed One, gives to all
    Wonderful words of life;
    Sinner, list to the loving call,
    Wonderful words of life;
    All so freely given,
    Wooing us to heaven.
  3. Sweetly echo the Gospel call,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Offer pardon and peace to all,
    Wonderful words of life;
    Jesus, only Savior,
    Sanctify us forever.       (Philip P. Bliss)

James 1:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.

Proverbs 22:17-23 English Standard Version (ESV)

Words of the Wise

17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise,
    and apply your heart to my knowledge,
18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,
    if all of them are ready on your lips.
19 That your trust may be in the Lord,
    I have made them known to you today, even to you.
20 Have I not written for you thirty sayings
    of counsel and knowledge,
21 to make you know what is right and true,
    that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?

22 Do not rob the poor, because he is poor,
    or crush the afflicted at the gate,
23 for the Lord will plead their cause
    and rob of life those who rob them.
