Verse of the Day 1/22

Verse of the Day 1/22

1 Thessalonians 1:8-9 For the Lord's message rang out from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place that your faith in God has gone out. Therefore, we don't need to say anything, for they themselves report what kind of reception we had from you: how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God     Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

As I read these verses today initially from the ESV (below) which states that "the word of the Lord sounded forth".  The HCSB (above) uses the word rang out which gives a better image of the sounding of a bell.  It reverberates and the sound carries with clarity over long distances.  It is a good picture how God's message goes forth as people place their faith in God and share what God is doing in their lives through His word and passing it on.

When the Bible was being written most communication was from word of mouth or hand written notes.  The printing press had not been invented and communication was at a snails pace compared to today.  Today, God's Word can ring out, resound through so many outlets that we probably cannot think of them all.  We have all the video communications; emails; texts; blogs;telephone and voicemail; and onto social media and beyond.  But it start with being willing to share and to post what God is doing through His Word in our lives.  What we have to do is to sound forth, let it ring out, pass it on.

I believe that it was back in the 70's that we sang the song "Pass It On".  If you've experienced God's love; His blessing through His Word, may you want to pass it on, who knows what God will do with it.

It only takes a spark to get a fire going

And soon all those around can warm up to its glowing

That's how it is with God's love

Once you've experienced it

You spread your love to everyone

You want to pass it on

1 Thessalonians 1:5-10 English Standard Version (ESV)

because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
