Verse of the Day 5/11

John 1:14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.  Amplified Bible (AMP)

In verse 17 we read that "grace and truth" came through Jesus Christ.  In today's verse we see how He did this, He took on flesh, came down from His throne to live among us for a time and afterwards to dwell in our hearts in the person of the Holy Spirit.  The infinite became finite, the Eternal became conformed to time; the invisible God became visible; and the supernatural reduced Himself to the natural (see Philippians 2).  We live our lives, we put on our spiritual armor in grace and truth in combination together.

John MacArthur points out that this "tabernacling" with us literally means to "live in a tent", a temporary dwelling.  "The term calls to mind the OT tabernacle where God met with Israel before the temple was constructed. ... In the NT, God chose to dwell among His people in a far more personal way through becoming a man."  He continues to dwell with us in our hearts today in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Praise Him this weekend for His favor, loving kindness, mercy and truth.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

John 1:13-17

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

13 who were born,
not of blood,[a]
or of the will of the flesh,
or of the will of man,[b]
but of God.

14 The Word became flesh[c]
and took up residence[d] among us.
We observed His glory,
the glory as the One and Only Son[e] from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning Him and exclaimed,
"This was the One of whom I said,
'The One coming after me has surpassed me,
because He existed before me.'")
16 Indeed, we have all received grace after grace
from His fullness,
17 for the law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
