Verse of the Day 5/4

Psalm 27:4-5  The one thing I ask of the Lord
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the Lord's perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
    he will hide me in his sanctuary.
    He will place me out of reach on a high rock.  New Living Translation (NLT)

Last night somewhere around 100 kids and youth workers at St. Marks, participated in the 30 Hour Famine to raise awareness and support to feed the hungry through world vision.  We camped out in cardboard boxes.   Last night it dropped to around 45 degrees with wind gusts of 20 mph or more.  By the morning many of the makeshift "houses" were blown apart.  The kids hunkered down and made it through.  It was worth it.  It was great fellowship, team building, worship and the goal was accomplished.  We will have raised somewhere around $10,000 for World Vision.
The experience shed new light on these verses as I read them this morning.  I'm sure all of us who were there will appreciate being in our heated homes, and taking a hot shower today, we'd much rather live there than dwell in those make shift homes for more than a night.
No matter how opulent our home here may (or may not) be, the comparison between our dwelling place here and our eternal dwelling place will have even a greater contrast.  Why do we put so much into our earthly possessions and have little concern for the future.
Today, give thanks to the Lord for what you have.  How He has and will see you through trouble, how He will be our Shelter, out of reach from the onslaught of the evil one.

In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 27

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
When evil people come to devour me,
    when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me,
    my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident.
The one thing I ask of the Lord
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the Lord's perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
    he will hide me in his sanctuary.
    He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
Then I will hold my head high
    above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
    singing and praising the Lord with music.
