Verse of the Day 5/9

Matthew 6:34  So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.  Amplified Bible (AMP)

In yesterday's verse Peter challenged his readers, challenged us to cast our cares, our burdens on the Lord for He cares for us.  For most, if not all of us, there are plenty of cares and worries that bring anxiety to our lives on a regular, daily basis.  In today's verse, Jesus Himself tells us not to worry about tomorrow but focus on today.  Our challenge is one of faith, to let Him lead us and follow Him.

In today's "Grace Gems", Theodore Cuyler writes, "Faith does not shed tears over sorrows which may never come. God never made a Christian strong enough to stand the strain of today's duties--and all the load of tomorrow's anxieties piled upon the top of them. The apostle Paul himself would have broken down, if he had attempted the foolish experiment. We have a right to ask our Heavenly Father for strength equal to the day--but we have no right to ask him for one extra ounce of strength beyond it! Faith . . .
carries present loads,
meets present battles,
feeds on present promises, and
commits the future to a faithful God!

I'm reminded of the children's song "My Lord Knows the Way".  Learned as a child, it still rings true today.

My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow,
My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow,
Strength for today is mine all the way,
And all that I need for tomorrow,
My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow.

May your faith in Christ carry your present loads and meet your present battles as you follow Him through your "wilderness" of cares.

In Christ,
Mike

Thanksgiving

I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
